Anonymous said... @ September 17, 2008 at 12:02 AM

Walang ahensyang ganon. Kailangan mag-OT lahat. Mababa na mga sweldo, over-worked pa. Yan ang buhay ahensya. Mag-supplier ka na lang. Alipin ka ng ahensya pero kahit P.A. ka lang, kaya mo kitain in one month ang sweldo ng mga C.D. for 3 months.

Anonymous said... @ September 17, 2008 at 8:17 AM

Anonymous said... @ September 17, 2008 at 1:31 PM

Anonymous said... @ September 18, 2008 at 3:45 PM

Ang art director kaya or copywriter, magkano. Bwahahahaha!

Anonymous said... @ September 19, 2008 at 8:31 AM

some agencies take pride in the fact that their office operates on a 24/7 timeframe.

though this may look like a cool and romantic notion of a creative nirvana in reality it shows an alarming lack of time management and lack of account/traffic coordination.

it is a reflection of the inefficient management style of the people on top.

Anonymous said... @ September 19, 2008 at 10:01 AM

I think it doesn't matter if puro OT ka or hindi sa ahensiya mo as long as you love your work.

Yung mga mareklamo sa sweldo or amount of work I notice are the ones least passionate about their jobs.

Ika nga, find a job that you love and you'll never work a day in your life.

There's no such thing as a job that pays well but requires you to do oh so little work.

Even the richest men in the world work their asses off because they're not doing it for the money. Money just happened to be the result of their love for what they're doing.

Anonymous said... @ September 23, 2008 at 2:21 AM

I love that last comment. It's so true.

In response to that comment that PAs or make-up artists make more than art directors and copywriters...who cares. What's important is your job fulfills and challenges you. P100,000 nga sweldo mo (not that ganun kataas yun) pero hate mo namang magpahid ng eyeshadow sa mata ng iba or maghintay sa service, wala rin. For some people it's not about the money.

Yung sagot first question dito...JimBasic daw. But again, for some people it's not about the money.

There's an agency - I don't know the name - that allows people to work only four days a week. Kung wala kang sabit on Friday, you can take the day off.

Come to think of it, if you're always in the office, how can you come up with wonderful storylines? You need to experience life outside of work to gain insights and come up with wonderful stories.

Anonymous said... @ September 23, 2008 at 10:09 AM

Ako I love my job sa advertising kahit pa yung jmga batchmates ko from college are earning like 3 or 4 times my salaray 'coz they're on the client side, hindi ko ma-imagine sarili ko magwork sa ganung environment.

Sabi nga ng boss ko dati, "Look, there are agency people who went to the client side and did well. May narinig ka na bang client na naging creative? Wala! Kasi bobo sila!"

Sa loob-loob ko naman, eh kasi mababa sweldo sa ahensiya naman compared sa client side kaya malamang they don't join agencies.

Anyway, I'm digressing.

My point is tama si anonymous-10:01AM.

Anonymous said... @ September 23, 2008 at 7:36 PM

Kung wala kang standards, madaling huwag mag OT.

Anonymous said... @ September 23, 2008 at 11:41 PM

Mukha ngang it's not about the money for most agency people. Kaya they have to wait for foreign post prod para lang makapag-travel. Bwahaha!

Anonymous said... @ September 24, 2008 at 10:45 AM

Anonymous said... @ September 24, 2008 at 2:11 PM

"Mukha ngang it's not about the money for most agency people. Kaya they have to wait for foreign post prod para lang makapag-travel."

--Ngek! Obviously whoever wrote this thinks taking trips abroad is a sign that one "has arrived."

While it might be true to some extent, only the "bakya" crowd has the mentality that taking foreign trips is a sign of being wealthy.

So what if you have a pic of yourself by the Eiffel Tower?

That's not really the point there.

The real measure is if you were able to stay in a five star hotel or ate in a five-star restaurant. In Paris.

Now if you only have a photo by the Eiffel Tower and a stamped passport to show for, then there's really no point bragging about being able to travel abroad.

-Yeah, it's not about the money for us. We are not supposed to be paid well because our job doesn't involved taking sh*t or kissing ass all the time. I bet your a supplier. I think you and your ilk deserve to be paid handsomely. Otherwise, nobody who has enough dignity in them would ever take such a sh*tty job as yours.

Anonymous said... @ September 25, 2008 at 11:54 AM

Uy ang daming sinabi! Hurt ang mga taga-ahensya. Talagang truth hurts! Bwahahaha!

SANA HINDI KA COPYWRITER. PA-CHECK NG GRAMMAR BAGO MAGTARAY.

Anonymous said... @ September 25, 2008 at 12:32 PM

Hahaha! Agree! Yang mga supplier willing to kiss ass and even lick your b*tthole clean just to get their cut.

Anonymous said... @ September 25, 2008 at 12:48 PM

It's ideal to love what you do pero for how long probably sa umpisa lang yan. Once you settle down family etc then money becomes very important, The only time an agency person earns substantial is when she or he becomes ecd or cd, Actually we are all suppliers if you think about it. The client can always find another agency just like agencies who can opt not to use this supplier. The reason why a lot of our tvc are not award-winning or just safe is because agencies "mostly" wont risk ideas with their relationship with their clients. At the end of the day it's all just business.

Anonymous said... @ September 25, 2008 at 2:37 PM

The diff between agencies and suppliers is that an agency has to engage the client in a fight, especially when the agency thinks their idea has legs and the client sees it otherwise.

Only lame agencies just roll over and give up so easily. But most agencies do engage in these battles even if most of the time they lose.

As for suppliers, they just come in after the battle. Their job is to clean up the mess--they're the undertakers, so to speak.

So I think it's not really accurate to lump agencies and suppliers in one basket.

One has the additional burden of going into fight, while the other is just there to clean up the mess.

Anonymous said... @ September 25, 2008 at 7:10 PM

Anonymous said... @ September 25, 2008 at 10:31 PM

You can't be fighting the client all the time. hahaha work has to be enjoyable or else burn out ka rin in the long run. There must be a better way to win a client's side of your idea. Anyway,
The fact is suppliers earn much. They work hard, they get their hands dirty all the time but they're able to afford a nice house, car without a loan , travel and spend their vacations in the best hotels while they're young. Just the facts.

Anonymous said... @ September 25, 2008 at 11:18 PM

DIFFERENCE REALLY IS: AGENCIES HAVE TO WAIT FOR MIDNIGHT MADNESS OR CHRISTMAS BONUS TO BE ABLE TO SHOP IN GLORIETTA.
SUPPLIERS CAN SHOP AT FAUBOURG SAINT-HONORE OR SAKS FIFTH, ANYTIME.

The message above doesn't INVOLVED a supplier. I bet YOUR an agency person. Bwahahaha! Tago ka na sa saya ng CD mo. Kakahiyang mga taga ahensya ito.

Anonymous said... @ September 25, 2008 at 11:31 PM

Suppliers kiss agency's ass everytime they have a project with them. Agencies kiss client's ass for as long as they're handling the account. Ano nga uli ang difference?

Anonymous said... @ September 26, 2008 at 8:36 AM

It's paradoxical how the veil of anonimity can unmask the true nature of people.

I never fully understood the meaning of "mukhang pera" until I read some of the comments here.

It's funny how people, especially the suppliers, flaunt their earning power.

As defined by Forbes Mag, to be classified as belonging to the top 1% of the world's rich, you have to have at least a personal worth of $5 million. Who among suppliers or agency people have that personal worth?

Only one person. And she's from the agency side--Yoly Ong. She's worth around $25 million.

So to the suppliers exhibiting their shameful greed here, chew on this:

Even if you work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the rest of your pathetic lives, you will never be able to amass that kind of wealth.

Only an agency person has the smarts to put up his own ad agency and earn sums suppliers can only dream of.

Anonymous said... @ September 26, 2008 at 11:36 AM

nalalayo na yata ang usapan

Anonymous said... @ September 26, 2008 at 8:34 PM

Tsk, tsk, tsk. Mga suppliers talaga, sobrang mukhang pera! Nakakahiya kayo!

Buti pa mga ahensya. They don't do it for the money. They do it for a much higher cause:

To sell shampoo, detergent bar, suka, toyo, whitening soap, instant mami and celphone load.

Awwwwww, how noble.

Anonymous said... @ September 29, 2008 at 4:51 PM

AKALA NYO LANG WALA, PERO MERON! MERON! MERON!

kaka-inggit no?
THE NERD!

Anonymous said... @ September 29, 2008 at 4:56 PM

IDEALISTIC. NOBLE.

Anonymous said... @ September 30, 2008 at 9:06 AM

sarcasm yata ang tawag dun.

Anonymous said... @ September 30, 2008 at 12:34 PM

You know, some of us actually like what we do. Call us sell-outs or what have you, but I, personally, have fun making ads.

Granted, there are times that doing OT is unavoidable. In some agencies, it's par for the course. And in rare cases, some actually go home and manage to live a normal life (whatever that may be).

If you can't take the heat (and the meager salary we draw from it), then get out. The industry isn't exactly FORCING you to stay in your job.

What we need are people who are passionate about their craft. If you're more passionate about ragging on people, agencies and suppliers, that's quite telling.

Anonymous said... @ September 30, 2008 at 3:30 PM

I highly doubt that Yoly Ong is worth $25m. She's worth around P300-350m at best.

Anonymous said... @ September 30, 2008 at 7:11 PM

WPP almost bought out Campaigns for $30m. (You can ask the accounting firm, SGV, I think, who did the due diligence.)

So yeah, Yoly Ong is the only billion-peso ad exec.

TBWA has only 4-day work weeks. minsan kailangan pa ring pumasok pag V-day (v as in virtual, we are reminded by the CDs, not V as in vacation) pero okay lang, at least may isang araw for errands.

You don't spend Vday, doing errands.
On a virtual day, you are virtually in the office, on call, on line.

grabe...
supplier bashing.

dont stereotype suppliers.
hindi lahat ganon.

siguro nga merong mga ulol na ganon...

bad bad bad.

on another note...
masaya naman mag-OT ah! :)

haha! labo...

the work of a creative doesn't stop once he steps out of the office. yes, the crafting mostly takes place in the work place, but outside is where he gathers material, insight and everything else that he eventually puts on the table.

i find that i come up with ideas or other stuff for work while driving to the office or even while taking a dump. sometimes even in the middle of a party. it's not that i have nothing else to do; on the contrary, i am living a full life. it's just that everything that i do somehow helps me accomplish my job.

so to answer the question: i think the work hours can actually be captured by a timesheet or a proximity card.

i know, it's sappy and idealistic, incidentally, i am working in an agency where people usually come in later than 930am and leave at 6pm. :) we enjoy long leisurely lunches in the middle too.

Anonymous said... @ October 29, 2008 at 6:18 PM

Anonymous said... @ October 29, 2008 at 10:13 PM

If agency people are paid for every silly comment that they make during a shoot, ang dami na sigurong mayaman sa inyo. Di niyo na kailangang mag-OT. Too bad.

Anonymous said... @ October 30, 2008 at 11:38 AM

it all boils down to this:

the reason for ots:

-it showcase the inability of upper management to schedule time.

-creatives who take their sweet time thumbing through award books for inspiration or a novel idea!

-the infighting hoop time as to who gets credit for an apparently award winning idea - going through hoops till the cd or cd has his masturbatory creative stamp on it.

-accounts people with no spine who bend over backwards catch the flack for idiotic brand managers who don't know how to handle their brand.

-traffic coordinators who bend over to the inane scheduling requests of the accounts people.

-top management who does not give a shit since they go home at five pm on the dot.

-silos infighting for specific project share to justify their bottomline deliverable ( sa activation ba yan? design? thematic etc.)

-top management not having the strategy or vision to plan out the year resulting in reactionary initiatives and the proverbial scampaign award baiting move.

ayan.
