Weno naman ngayon?
Talaga namang may mga ads na nagkakapareho na hindi naman sadya.

Pasalamat na nga tayo may nanalo para sa Pilipinas e.
Iisa na lang nga nakuha natin sa Cannes, ginaganyan nyo pa. Kayo pa nagbababa ng kapwa Pinoy.

Yung nagsend nito...wala sigurong panalo sa Cannes.
Tapos bitter.

Tuwing tinitingnan ko 'tong blog na 'to nanliliit ako...para tayong walang pag-asa. Puros paninira, kulang sa gawa.

pwede tong ginaya, pwede ring hindi. ang importante, binasbasan na to ng mga hurado ng cannes kaya nagka tanso. sa mga hindi bilib sa trabahong ito at sa desisyon ng cannes, isa lang ang pwedeng gawin - gumawa kayo na sariling pang entry sa cannes (at sa iba pang festivals) na hindi kahina-hinala at ipakita nyo ang galing nyo. sa dinadami-daming JO, baka naman kahit isa, pwedeng gawan ng maganda.

kung hindi, magiging isa pang betsayda gachalian lang kayo. walang ginawa kundi mag hanap ang magkakamukhang ads at maglabas ng sariling PR write-up. kakahiya.

well, no point in debating kung ginaya o hindi. kung scam o hindi (there's a bronze-winning TV ad nga ngayon sa cannes, hindi pala na-sign-off ng client, ayun the agency is getting much flak).

it just goes to show na tao lang po ang judges sa cannes at kahit judge sila dun, marami dun--and pardon the word--tanga.

even neil french himself, nagsabi may mga judges dun na talagang "hello." (at kaya naman siya nagtayo ng kanyang sariling awards show dahil sa mga questionable judges sa cannes at syempre wala ng trabaho ang mama kaya dun na lang siya kikita.)

anyway, point being, the judges awarded the gabriela ad the bronze lion kasi it stood out AMONG OTHER ENTRIES and NOT AMONG ADS DONE IN THE DISTANT PAST.

now, dahil ba judges sila eh expected na alam nila lahat ng ads na nagawa? NO.

as i wrote, marami sa kanila "hello" talaga. what's the proof?

2006 the lego "periscope" ad was judged the press grand prix. duh. sa lahat ng ibang major awards show it didn't even reach finalist status.

and from david droga to marcelo serpa to neil french, all the big names in advertising were aghast on how the judges came to the decision of giving it the grand prix.

so there. wag na natin pag-awayan. nanalo na ng bronze. next year limot na ng lahat yang ad na yan.

such is the reality in advertising. kahit grand prix pa yan, give it two years mababaon yan sa limot.

ilan ba sa atin nakakaalala kung ano print grand prix nung 2005 o 2004? (na hindi titinign sa archive ha!)

see? i rest my case.

dati ay gumawa ako ng araw-winning ad. pagkalipas ng limang taon ay nagkaroon ito ng kambal sa isa ring local agency. (copy lang at font ang pinagkaiba.) pagkatapos nanalo ang kambal sa adcon (uli!) at sa iba pang regional show.

siyempre, nagulat ako. pero sumama ba ang loob ko? hindi. nakilala ko yung mga gumawa ng kambal, at pakiramdam ko, tsamba lang ang pagkahawig ng aming ginawa. ni hindi ko na binanggit ang magkaparehas na ad namin.

kaya kung ako, kayang magwalang-bahala, dapat ikaw din, wawam.

minsan, talagang nangyayari 'yon. sa dinamidami ng ads sa mundo, wala na sigurong orihinal na katha.

if it's an exact copy, then it cannot be "tsamba" or a coincidence. your work, like in this case the amnesty international ad was copied, no such thing as "tsamba" or a coincidence.

it's a very clear violation of copyright laws and intelectual property rights. as an agency person, you should be apalled by it and you should have taken legal action. you owe it to yourself, your craft and the client you did your ad for. if you had told your client about it, i am sure your client would have taken legal action. clients pay you to work for them for business reasons. and businesses do not like the products of their investment stolen by others. don't forget that you do not work for yourself, you work for your clients.

1. Kung plagiarism nga ito - i think hindi deserving manalo. Hindi ko alam ang basehan ng mga judges kaya nanalo ito ng bronze pero kung ako ang judge - hindi ko hahayaan ito.

2. Kung tsamba ito- I feel sorry. Napaka mediocre pala nung idea noh! hehe Imagine 2 creative group naka isip na almost alike big idea.

Kahit sabihin natin mas better yung execution ng Gabriela or the other firm eh as for me " main big idea yung issue dito eh".

Speaking of GC. Ask ko lang. Ang pitch ba napapanalo sa galing o sa palakasan o sa kurakot? Yung katatapos lang na AdCon na pitch yung nanalo ay yung ka-barkada ng isang mataas dun na nag press release na siyang mataas din sa isang kliyente nila.
