Patikim lang muna...

Proclamation 1105

"I will tear another fucking asshole in you"

"I have a two year contract with the agency ... part of the evaluation of my performance includes winning awards"

I know who this person is. And just like the recently departed (meaning HK-bound, not dead) ECD of another creative hotshop, he is simply here to make a name for himself, at the expense of Filipino creatives.

Anonymous said... @ December 6, 2007 at 2:03 PM

mga taga-Lowe,

Eh kung ayaw niyo umalis kayo.

pinoy creative,

Yung tinutukoy mo also helped put Pinas on the map. Eh, ikaw? Why at the expense of Filipino Creatives? Diba kayo natuto sa Ogilvy? Then I guess useless and transfer of knowledge sa 'yo.

Mga tita you must earn your job.

Obviously Tsismax thrives on the misery of others as the Header says Tsismax loves the posted blog.

Tsk tsk. Such great reporting as they only see things from one side and did not even bother to check the other side of the coin.

What professionalism. I hope they take this to work.

Oh and they seem hellbent on castigating our foreign friends but fail to even point out the corruption in the big agencies instigated by locals. Need I mention the head of one whose name appears along the partners in a declining creative agency who stole money in the millions from a previous agency and espouses moral values like prayer at work while he seeks young boys at night?

Anonymous said... @ December 6, 2007 at 2:56 PM

kontra tsismax,

What you exhibit is colonial mentality at its worst. You are implying Filipino creatives would be nothing without foreign help. That we cannot learn on our own.

Bajeezers. You're a throwback to Spanish times. In your mind, you still see yourself as an Indio.

What a shame.

Anonymous said... @ December 6, 2007 at 3:04 PM

kontra tsismax,

Anong they put the Philippines on the map? Gunggung ka!

First Clio bronze ng Philippines sa David Guerrero nagpanalo.

First Adfest Gold ng Philippines si Edsel Tolentino at Shiela Dela Cuesta nagpanalo.

First Clio Gold ng Philippines si Leigh Reyes at Trisha Uy nagpanalo.

First Cannes Gold ng Philippines si Brandie Tan at Tin Sanchez nagpanalo.

First Young Lions Silver ng Philippines si Nonie Tobias at Mela Advincula nagpanalo.

Pinoy Creative is right, you are still an Indio in your mind and in your heart which you should be ashamed for.

Keep up the good work guys!

Anonymous said... @ December 6, 2007 at 3:21 PM

Anonymous,

Before you spew out your stupidity all over the internet, I suggest you study evolutionary socio-psychology.

By nature all groups of people are xenophobic of other groups of people. It's an evolutionary mechanism stemming from human beings' tribal beginnings.

So your statement that Filipinos are xenophobes only betrays your ignorance and your own xenophobia. Or worse, your blatant racism.

Go Pinoy,

You obviously don't know what racism means in its strict definition.

kontra tsismax,

You of all people know that an ECD is only as good as the people working under him.

My point is, with or without foreign ECD's it was only a matter of time before Filipinos caught up with the rest of the world.

Foreign ECD's may have speeded up the process but to credit them entirely is just plain simplistic and smacks of colonial mentality.

I suggest you start believing in your own abilites for your own sake.

Anonymous said... @ December 6, 2007 at 4:06 PM

Anonymous said... @ December 6, 2007 at 4:08 PM

You can't even write in English.

Anonymous said... @ December 6, 2007 at 4:11 PM

lastikman,

Define "esteemed." Wrong choice of word. And if you are perceptive enough, you'll notice someone's merely highjacking my nick.

Anonymous said... @ December 6, 2007 at 4:31 PM

kontra tsismax,

You are taking a narrow view of things, I noticed.

Thailand, India, Singapore and Malaysia have catapulted themselves ahead of us simply because the global ad agencies and their holding companies have larger stakes in those markets. Hence, they sought to develop the creative reputations of those countries, pressuring local agencies there to up the ante, so to speak, to gain a higher profile.

Economically (and you can ask any economist or banker), we are at the same level as that of Vietnam and Indonesia. And so creatively we are also at the same level as they are (though we're slightly ahead now). Meaning, our country is not a priority in the agenda of global agencies and their holding companies.

These are all business decisions and it has nothing to do with creativity no matter how you wax romantic about it.

Now, on the point of the Philippines winning because of foreign creative leaders, again, who set the standards for global creative awards, anyway?

The west. We are following western standards by virtue of their being more dominant globally.

So it is natural for foreign creatives to know the game because they were the ones who set the rules of the game in the first place.

Again, my point, which you keep missing is, don't be too enamoured with foreign talent.

Talent knows no boundaries. Pinoys have talent and we are great at what we do.

You are missing the point if you set your standards according to what the west has set.

Creativity is creativity no matter where you go, it just has different faces. Pinoy creativity is neither inferior nor superior to anyone elese's. Same with western creativity. It is neither inferior nor superior to Pinoy creativity.

Broaden your mind on what creativity is. If you don't, you'll be shackled by your narrow views until the end of your career and ultimately, you're robbing yourself the opportunity to become greater than who you are right now.

Anonymous said... @ December 6, 2007 at 4:33 PM

It would also be good if Tsismax covers other tsisms as well.

Like the one mentioned by Joe. We all know the one he is talking about. A pillar of the industry. Couples for Christ. Married. And into little boys. Or rather, inside them, if you catch my drift.

Heard he also took some millions from a celebrity talent as he used the talent for a TVC.

What would you call that behavior by a pillar of the industry?

Anonymous said... @ December 6, 2007 at 4:45 PM

Tayo kaya kailan?

Anonymous said... @ December 6, 2007 at 4:51 PM

At ba't niyo po binabalik sa akin sa salita niyong "for your own sake"

Anonymous said... @ December 6, 2007 at 4:55 PM

kontra tsismax,

I am trying to win you over because you are Filipino, too (despite me calling you indio earlier and I apologize for that).

I would leave you to your sorry thinking if you were not Filipino but I do not wish for my fellow Filipinos to think so lowly of themselves and put foreigners on a pedestal.

If I failed to change your views then so be it, continue believing that foreigners should be credited for whatever progress Filipinos achieve, creatively or economically.

It's just like saying we're a bunch of neanderthals and foreigners are the true homo sapiens.

And by the way, Indonesia has shuttered their aerospace dreams after discovering they have no market to sell their airplanes to.

Anonymous said... @ December 6, 2007 at 5:04 PM

" joe said...

Yes we do love the blog because it comes out sincere and true. Somehow we empathize with the things they are going through. But we do know there's a flip-side to that coin.

Would the ECD in question point us to a blog or an article we could quote? If we find merit in it we will say "TSISMAX also HEARTS THIS BLOG." For now we don't see anything "lovable" about the guy except maybe his dedication to raise the LOWE business at whatever cost. But our heart always goes to the oppressed. Kung pinoy ka maaawa ka talaga eh. Magpapa-meeting tapos magmumura? Bawal mag-shave? Tama ba yun?

Re the Pinoy who stole millions and is fond of "little" boys, kindly enlighten us some more. We are VERY interested.

Just to add we don't hate foreigners and in fact we are grateful for their HELP in putting the Filipino creatives on the map. But please let's not take away the "pinoy pride" of our winning local talents. They very much deserve it naman di po ba?

Anonymous said... @ December 6, 2007 at 6:44 PM

kontra tsismax,

You didn't have to say outright you're worshipping foreigners but your postings drip with worship for them.

And aren't you contradicting yourself when you say because Filipinos keep mimicking, we no longer know ourselves? Yet you keep looking at other cultures, foreign ideas and foreign creative leaders for inspiration instead of drawing something from within your own culture.

How will you find yourself if you keep looking outwardly instead of inwardly? Since what we do is mostly art, you very well know that the most powerful artworks, be they literature or visual arts, have been drawn from the artist's own experiences and his own interpretation of the world

Are you saying to know ourselves we must look at other cultures?

It's contradictory and doesn't make sense any way you look at it.

How can our ads look fresh and quirky to anyone's eyes, especially foreigners judging them in global awards competitions, if what they see are the same things they see from where the came from?

Think about it.

And please, don't go all looking pitiful and oppressed. It's so typical again of the submissive colonial mindset of the past.

You reap what you sow.

It's you who caused yourself to be put in his proper place. You started off on the wrong foot so better be prepared to have people call you names.

You started off with all guns blazing, blasting Filipino pride and talent while praising foreign talent to high heavens.

It grates at the nerves to see Filipinos like you mocking their own. Hence, I have referred to you as someone lower than any Filipino for how can you stomach to mock your own kind?

And I am writing in English so that any foreigner reading this will understand that not all Filipino creatives have put them on a pedestal.

At least not like how you've put them on one.

Anonymous said... @ December 6, 2007 at 7:02 PM

How sad it is to see arrogance of a Filipino such as yours, go pinoy! have you truly found yourself? What have you done to show for it?

"Pride comes before..."

kontra tsismax,

Just had a dose of your own medicine and you deserve it.

Imagine, telling Lowe people to leave the agency if they can't stand their foreign ECD.

That's easier said than done and is a typical comment of people with narrow views and shallow thinking.

And please, don't digress. I still think you're an idiot fpr thinking foreigners are needed to uplift the Philippines, creatively or otherwise.

Now I'm going to tell you what you told the people from Lowe:

If you can't stand this country and you so badly need foreigners to help uplift your own sorry situation, then leave.

Go migrate some place else because this country would do better without people like you who not only think so lowly of themselves but of their country as well.

in terms of potential for great work, i think that it doesnt matter much if the creatives are foreigners or not. however, it also wont hurt to admit that many foreigners get better training than us filipinos.

i am not putting our race down. its not like we cant do what they do given the same resources that they have. im just saying that many of these foreigners have seen more things than the usual ad person -- and it wouldnt hurt to recognize that many of us (me included) fall short when it comes to that matter.

again, i think we filipinos have a very big potential for greatness, but i also think we can reach that goal faster by acquiring help from other people.

peace tayo. noob ako eh

Anonymous said... @ December 8, 2007 at 3:43 PM

Funny to see you agency guys fight. You all think that what you're doing is really important work eh? Or that the awards that you get actually matter to anyone other than you and your overblown egos. LOL!

You so badly need the recognition because you are nothing but mere peddlers of forgettable 30 seconder trash. And when you do come up with that very rare memorable material, it is still doesn't get noticed by anyone other than your momma- and only because you forced her to stay for the ad break instead of going to the toilet.

And to think that you spent days on this material writing three lines of copy (a very difficult task I imagine), or choosing the right font for the supers (a 5th grader can also do this). And of course even more difficult was producing this material which means being in the shoot, pretending like your presence is what will make this material work and fuzzing over and complaining about the tiniest things like "paayos ng hair, collar, makeup", "bakit di masarap ang food", "bakit late ang sevice".

Yes you guys are doing something really important. You allow us in the production to become rich while we humor you and encourage your delusions of grandeur. We call you sir's and ma'am's and take care of you and feed you and give you service that's fit for a king because we know that on your own, you can never afford them.

And to stay on topic, yes I also heart this blog.

Good day sir's and ma'am's. LOL

Anonymous said... @ December 10, 2007 at 2:46 AM

@hiro

the awards matter. it may not matter to you or to most people, but it does matter to people who are in the same field. even the production side has this sort of stuff.

i agree so many people in the agencies have overblown egos and act like they're on top of the social ladder, but i wouldnt say most of the ad people are like that; and sure you may think that ad agencies have easy work coming up with seemingly lame ideas, but there's a reason why the ad industry has become as big as it is today.

i think you judge advertising people prematurely. while you were quite accurate in describing some of your sir's and ma'am's, and i do agree that some are like that, i dont think that the creative works of many talented people in the industry should be dismissed just like that.

Anonymous said... @ December 10, 2007 at 7:59 AM

@hiro - isa lang masasabi ko. ouch you ingrate. for a guy who's getting paid mucho much to kiss our asses, you sound so awfully bitter. LOL.

Anonymous said... @ December 11, 2007 at 8:40 AM

+1 with anonymous on the fact that Hiro is an over paid ingrate. I am willing to bet too that two-faced Hiro also does not give it his all so aside from harboring dissent Hiro also does sub-par work. Why so? Because when you are to busy focusing on what Hiro does you tend to forget the big picture and merely coast. Could that be why the work coming from local production houses are the so-so stuff we see? Same as what we have decades ago?

BTT: It is saddening to see that the industry has boiled down to this. Could this be what is holding it back?

Since people seem more concerned about taking each other down than they are creating good work. Same goes for the blogger from Lowe.

Tsk tsk.

Anonymous said... @ December 11, 2007 at 12:55 PM

i agree with two cents...

no to backstabbing. those things that are internal should stay internal, and if you dont have the guts to say what you think face to face, i think that its better to not say anything at all.

as for wanting to take each other down, i think most of us have this mentality of wanting to be the biggest fish in a small pond.

Anonymous said... @ December 11, 2007 at 4:05 PM

Yun, ayos at least may konting aksyon.

Anonymous said... @ December 12, 2007 at 10:16 AM

ika nga ng fita, 'to the child it is not a game'. just think of us as little children. hehehe

i think awards are big enough to be proud of, but too small to fight over. tama yung mga tao dyan eh - bakit pa kayo nag aaway e may bonus na nga.

Agree, kahit papaano, career natin ito. Of course it's natural we would want to excel.

I'm proud of the awards i've won. Even more proud that it was for a real ad that came out for a big brand.

Will i do a scam ad if I think it will win big? Most probably.

What i will never do is steal an idea, take credit for other people's work or step on my friends to get to the top.

There is so much more to life then work - and I would say this not just to ad people but to clients, lawyers, doctors, athletes, etc.

I really do feel sorry for people who's only joy in life comes from working in advertising. Relax! Have a drink with the guy who got his bonus. It might just do you some good.

Sad is the state of things when people are motivated by money than by passion. This holds true for any endeavor and is the reason why fields such as sports do not have the stars they used to have.

peace :)

to the brave anonymous who said there is more to our craft than just a job and money do not worry about the detractors. they are more the liability of their respective agencies than a liability to you. their attitude reflects their character and their values. not yours. keep the fire burning anonymous.

So devil's advocate,

What is more to advertising? What altruistic flim-flam does advertising serve?

The ball's on your court. Let's play.

i totally agree. advertising is not just a job. it is a higher calling. only the most talented and most creative people deserve to work in advertising. :P

i think you are seeing things in black & white too much. parang on one hand, you have the greedy workers who only care about getting paid. then on the other hand you have the noble servants of the craft who would even work in an agency for free!

while i'm sure there are a lot of those two kinds in the industry , i think most would probably fall somewhere in between: yes, we are passionate about our jobs - but we do have to worry about feeding our kids and paying the rent and eating and such.

not everyone has daddy's money to fall back on you know ;)

Anonymous said... @ December 13, 2007 at 10:19 PM

wow!!! "higher calling." parang priesthood.

"only the most creative and most talented people deserve to work in advertising." patay tayo dito. daming matatanggal sa trabaho pag nagkataon.

agency conceit nga naman. LOL

Anonymous said... @ December 14, 2007 at 8:54 AM

On the contrary, ang mga nagwowork sa advertising ay hindi ang most talented at most creative people you can find.

Most aren't great at anything. Medyo magaling sa art, medyo magaling sa pagsulat pero not really that great.

Gumising na kayo sa katotohanan that advertising is not an art. It's a business that uses art as its tool and not the other way around.

Anonymous said... @ December 14, 2007 at 11:34 AM

advertising is art. it is pop culture.

Anonymous said... @ December 14, 2007 at 12:25 PM

lastikman,

Yeah, right. Wallow in your delusions of being an "artiste."
